DPF >> Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaning in Bristol.

How does a Diesel Particulate Filter work?

How does it effect you ?

Diesel Particulate filters (DPF) or traps do just that, they catch bits of soot in the exhaust. As with any filter they have to be emptied regularly to maintain performance. For a DPF this process is called 'regeneration' – the collected soot is burnt off at high temperature to leave only a tiny ash residue.

Are short trips causing a problem ?

Your car DPF needs to be running at a high tempature for over 15 minutes for the residue to be be burnt off. The problem comes when you only take short trips in your diesel car and the DPF doesnt get up to tempature for long enough. This causes the soot to keep on building up.

DPF Engine Management Light

Once this occurs, you will find that engine management light will come on. If this light is ignored your car will continue to build up sooty deposits and before long you will need a new Diesel Particulate Filter. On many cars these can cost over £1000. So you can see why getting your DPF Cleaned is vital once your Engine Management Light comes on.

DPF Removal - The Law

You are no longer allowed to remove your DPF for tunning purposes or to avoid replacement of the filter itself. It is now a LEGAL Reguirement for your diesel car to have one fitted if it had one at the time of leaving the factory.
